Answers to the things people actually email us about.
What does CarbLens AI actually do?
Snap a photo of your meal, enter how many units you bolused, and the app pulls your blood glucose from your CGM for the next 3 hours. The journal shows what happened to your sugar after every meal — over time you build a real memory of how foods affect you. On top of that: an AI you can ask about your patterns, and friends, groups, and battles to keep the logging habit alive.
My Dexcom won't connect.
Open Settings inside the app → Connect to Dexcom. Use the same username and password you use for the Dexcom Share / Follow app (not necessarily your main Dexcom app login). If you can log in there and still can't here, email me and I'll dig in.
My Libre won't connect.
CarbLens connects to FreeStyle Libre through LibreLinkUp — the follower app, not the LibreLink scanning app. Set up LibreLinkUp sharing first (invite yourself or a follower account from LibreLink), then use that LibreLinkUp email and password in CarbLens Settings.
I logged a meal but there's no 3-hour chart for it.
Usually this happens when you log a meal right after opening the app, before your BG number has finished loading. The app backfills the chart in the background as long as you open it within ~24 hours of the meal — sit on the home screen for ~30 seconds with your CGM connected and it'll heal itself. If the meal is older than 24 hours, the CGM service's API has already rolled off the data and it's gone.
The home screen takes a minute to show my BG. Is that normal?
Yeah — the CGM services take a few seconds to authenticate the first time per app session, then readings refresh about every 5 minutes after that.
Does the app tell me what to bolus?
No. It's a logging and tracking tool, not a medical device. If you've entered your own carb ratio it can prefill the arithmetic, clearly marked as an editable guess behind a warning — but it never recommends doses, and neither does the AI chat. It shows what happened so you (with your healthcare provider) can decide better next time.
Do I need a CGM?
A Dexcom or Libre connection is what powers the automatic 3-hour glucose chart. Without one you can still scan meals, log doses, use the AI chat, and compete with friends — the response chart is the part that depends on CGM data.
What about Medtronic or other CGMs?
Right now: Dexcom (via Share) and FreeStyle Libre (via LibreLinkUp). Other integrations are on the roadmap — email me if you want one prioritized.
Can I edit a past meal entry?
You can swipe to delete entries in the Journal, and tap the time at the top of a meal to fix a wrong timestamp. Full editing is on the roadmap.
How do I export my data?
In the Journal, tap the share icon in the top right. The app generates a CSV of all your meals — send it via Mail, AirDrop, save to Files, whatever you want.
How do I delete my data?
Settings → Delete Account removes your profile, messages, TIR summaries, and your cloud health backup from our servers. Deleting the app from your iPhone wipes everything that was stored locally. Full details are in the privacy policy on this site.
How do subscriptions and the free trial work?
CarbLens AI is free to download, with a subscription inside; the yearly plan starts with a 3-day free trial. Subscriptions are billed and managed by Apple — cancel anytime in Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions. Current pricing is shown on the App Store listing and in the app.
